Testing Options
Functional testing can offer deeper insight into your health, helping us move beyond symptom management and better understand the underlying drivers of imbalance.
Within selected packages, testing is included where it is most clinically relevant. These tests allow us to assess areas such as gut health, hormones, and the microbiome, providing a more detailed picture of how your body is functioning and where support is needed.
That said, testing is not always required. In many cases, we can gather valuable information through your health history, symptoms, and any recent pathology testing completed with your GP. Where testing is considered, it is always thoughtfully recommended based on your individual needs and discussed with you beforehand to ensure it feels appropriate and accessible.
How Testing Works
If testing is included as part of your package or recommended during your consultation, your test kit will be ordered on your behalf and delivered directly to your home.
You’ll receive clear instructions on how to complete your test, and once results are available, we will review them together in a dedicated consultation. From there, your treatment plan will be refined to ensure your support is as targeted and effective as possible.
Our Most Common Tests
Functional testing allows us to move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach.
Below are some of the most commonly used tests within the Sirona Wellness clinic, each providing valuable information to support a more personalised and targeted approach to your care
-
The Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis is an advanced functional test used to assess the health of your gut and digestive system.
It provides insight into the balance of beneficial and opportunistic bacteria, the presence of parasites or yeast, digestive function, inflammation, and markers of gut immunity.
This level of testing allows us to better understand how well your body is breaking down and absorbing nutrients, while also identifying potential drivers of symptoms such as bloating, irregular bowel movements, food sensitivities, skin concerns, and fatigue.
This test is particularly valuable when working with more complex or long-standing digestive concerns, helping guide more targeted and effective treatment.
-
The vaginal microbiome plays a vital role in women’s health, influencing everything from discharge and discomfort to susceptibility to infections and overall reproductive health.
This test provides a detailed analysis of the vaginal environment, assessing the balance of protective and disruptive bacteria. This helps to identify imbalances that may be contributing to symptoms such as recurrent thrush, BV, irritation, or unexplained discomfort.
Understanding the vaginal microbiome allows for more precise, targeted support to restore balance and support long-term vaginal and reproductive health.
-
The oral microbiome is an often-overlooked but important part of overall health, with connections to digestion, inflammation, and even fertility outcomes.
This test evaluates the balance of bacteria within the mouth, identifying potential imbalances that may contribute to inflammation, gum health concerns, and broader impacts on overall wellbeing.
In the context of preconception care, supporting the oral microbiome can play a role in optimising both individual and partner health, making it a valuable addition to a more holistic fertility approach.
-
Semen analysis is a foundational test used to assess male fertility and is an important part of a comprehensive preconception approach.
While fertility is often viewed through a female lens, male factors contribute to approximately half of all fertility challenges. Assessing sperm health can therefore provide valuable insight when preparing for pregnancy or when conception is taking longer than expected.
This test evaluates several key markers that influence the ability to conceive, including sperm count, motility (how well sperm move), and morphology (the shape and structure of sperm), as well as overall semen quality.
Each of these factors plays a role in fertilisation — from the sperm’s ability to travel effectively, to its capacity to reach and penetrate the egg. Even when general health appears optimal, underlying changes in sperm quality may still be present and can impact fertility outcomes.
Semen analysis can help identify potential barriers to conception early, allowing for more targeted support through nutrition, lifestyle, and naturopathic care. It also provides an opportunity to support both partners in a more balanced and informed way throughout the preconception journey.
-
The Well Woman Blood Test is a comprehensive pathology panel that provides an overview of key markers relating to general health and hormonal balance.
It assesses areas such as iron status, thyroid function, blood sugar regulation, liver health, and reproductive hormones — all of which play an important role in energy, mood, metabolism, and menstrual cycle health.
This test can be particularly helpful in identifying underlying imbalances that may be contributing to symptoms such as fatigue, irregular cycles, PMS, or ongoing hormonal concerns, allowing for more targeted and supportive treatment.
-
The Female Hormone Profile is a saliva-based test used to assess key reproductive hormones across the menstrual cycle.
It measures hormones such as oestrogen, progesterone, and cortisol, providing insight into hormonal balance, stress response, and how your body is functioning throughout different phases of your cycle.
This type of testing can be particularly useful for understanding patterns such as PMS, irregular cycles, mood changes, or fertility concerns, helping guide a more personalised and targeted approach to hormone support.
Naturopathy is not currently covered under Medicare in Australia, and most functional testing ordered through naturopathic practice is not eligible for private health rebates.
Testing is always optional and will be recommended only where it is clinically relevant. All costs will be discussed with you prior to proceeding so you can make an informed decision about your care.
